Vembanad Lake

The Vembanad Lake is the longest lake in India and engulfs Cocobay Resort on all sides. The Vembanad wetland system covers an area of over 2033.02 km and is know for its stunning natural beauty.Onam brings new life to these waters with stunning Snake Boat Races and the lake also hosts the prestigious Nehru Trophy Boat Race. The massive mangroves and coconut tree lines is an indulgence to the eyes.

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

Located just 1.4 kms from Cocobay Resort is this spectacular sanctuary for birds that is spread over 14 acres and is located on the Meenachil River. The sanctuary is know for its amazing collection of local birds like waterfowl, koel, owl, egret, heron, cormorant, moorhen, darter, and brahminy kite, as well as the migratory gull, teal, tern, flycatcher, and other birds are seen here during their respective migratory seasons. Some of the migratory birds come from the Himalayas, and a few from Siberia. This is must visit for all visitors.

Aruvikkuzhi Waterfall and Rubber Plantations

Located 23 kms from Cocobay resort and encircled by a massive expanse of lush green rubber plantation, the revitalizing Aruvikkuzhi waterfall can leave a traveller amazed with its beauty. Popular among both trekkers and nature loving travellers who like to explore the offbeat, this waterfall is a real feast for the eyes.

Bay Island Drift Museum

Located just 900 meters from Cocobay Resort. Bay Island Driftwood Museum at Kumarakom displays large collection of superior quality driftwood articles of very high artistic value, prepared through a rare and innovative modern art form.

Thanneermukkom Bund

Located reroute from Cochin to Kumarakom and just 10 kms from Cocobay Resort. The Thanneermukkom Bund (Thannermukkom Salt Water Barrier) was constructed to prevent tidal action and intrusion of salt water into the Kuttanad low-lands across Vembanad Lake between Thannermukkom on west and Vechur on east. It is the largest mud regulator in India. This barrier essentially divides the lake into two parts - one with brackish water perennially and the other half with fresh water fed by the rivers draining into the lake.

Pathiramanal Island

Located just 3.7 kms by boat from Cocobay Resort. The name Pathiramanal means 'midnight sand'. The scenic beauty of both sides of the lake as well as that of the island is mind blowing. Ettumanoor Mahadevar, Thirunakkara Mahadevar and Vaikom Mahadeva Temples

  • Ettumanoor Mahadeva temple is an ancient Shiva temple reconstructed in 717 ME (1542 AD). This temple is just located 16 kms from Cocobay Resort. Temple tradition have it that the Pandavas and the sage Vyasa had worshipped at this temple. The name of the place has its origin from the word 'manoor', which means the land of deer.
  • Thirunakkara Mahadevar Temple situated in the heart of Kottayam city is one of the 108 revered Shivalayas in central Kerala. The temple is about 500 years old and was built by the Thekkumkoor raja. It also preserves a number of unique sculptures and murals of various Hindu deities. A common belief is that the idol of Shiva here is installed by sage Parashurama himself. This temple is just located 12 kms from Cocobay Resort.
  • Vaikom Mahadeva Temple is one of the biggest temples in Kerala, the Vaikom Mahadeva Temple has a courtyard of about eight acres of land. The premises levelled with river sand is protected by compound walls with four Gopuras or towers on all the four sides. Locates 20 kms from Cocobay Resort.
